Cotton Pocket Square

Let's start with the easiest fabric, cotton. The easiest fabric to wash, cotton can handle high temperature. If you want to use the washing machine, we recommend using 60°c for white cotton and 40° for colours. If cotton would be able to the drying machine, the rolled edges of your pocket square don't. Make sure to use delicate drying program.

To get rid of wrinkles, you can iron at high temperature your pocket square. To avoid a steam stain, use a towel over your pocket square and iron over it.

A noble and resistant fabric, linen is, like cotton, a natural fibre. It can boil. To avoid a disaster, we recommend using 60°c for white linen and 40° for colours.

Avoid using the dryer! Let your linen pocket square air dry; but not under the sun as it may cause a discoloration.

Regarding ironing, as linen wrinkles quite easily, use high temperature and a lot of steam. As we said, linen is a resistant fabric, don't fear putting your iron directly on your linen pocket square.

How to care for your tie and bow tie

A good tie, or a great bow tie, should last you for years - or at least that's our philosophy here at Pochette Square, and that's how we create our accessories. But for this, you also need to care for your accessories. Our ties and bow ties are handmade, with great care by talented craftsmen and women. The same care should go into your precious accessories.
To take care of a tie, you have to start as soon as you want to take it off.First, untie it by doing the same steps of your knot, only in reverse. This will lower the chance of wrinkles. Pulling directly the knot may put too much pressure on the shape of your tie, and its seams. This is a greater risk for wool or cashmere ties that may loosen up.
Make sure to store your linen, cotton or wool ties on a hanger, they will keep their shape and the wrinkles will fade away naturally. For your silk ties, we would rather recommend rolling them as silk is a fabric that is more sensible to gravity.
In case of wrinkles, steam will be your best ally. You can hang your ties in your bathroom when you take a hot shower, the steam will loosen the fibres. If you want to iron your ties, you need to be careful. Keep a low temperature, but with a lot of steam. Don't put the iron directly on your tie, but put it under a -shirt or a cotton towel. Avoid putting too much pressure on the tie, as it may press it. Slide the iron on the fabric. After that, let your tie lay flat.

If you make a stain, don't panic. First, mop it up with a clean handkerchief, without rubbing it. Clean your tie afterwards with a handkerchief slightly soaked in cold water and a little soap, nothing else. Chemical products will make your tie fade, and may even stain it. Don't wash your tie, or your bow tie, in the washing machine, as it would condemn them to a slow death. Your must trusted ally should be a quality dry cleaner, whom may be able to remove most stains without damaging your accessory. Don't put your faith blindly into their hands, but ask how they iron the ties, as they should never be pressed. For your knitted ties and bow ties, avoid at all cost to wash them is the washing machine, the knit won't be able to stand it. Bring your accessories to your dry cleaner on how you could wash them.
